Cle de Peau // Radiant Liquid Rouge
I really didn't know what to expect when I purchased this Radiant Liquid Rouge. It wasn't a gloss and it wasn't a liquid lipstick. It sounded like some hybrid, but what exactly I wasn't sure. Cle de Peau's reputation precedes itself, so I bought one on faith alone. And for $48 a pop, it was a lot of faith.
I purchased color No. 12, an everyday sort of cool-toned mauve color. As soon as I made that first swipe across my lips, I was in love. It was, what you could say, "Love at first swipe." The texture is incredibly unique. It feels part slippery silicone, part oil but somehow doesn't feel like it's sloshing around. I love a moisturizing lipstick, but I really despise one that feels like it's moving around, smearing and eventually all gone within minutes. It's tough to find a longer-lasting moisturizing lippie, but these liquid rouges really satisfies both. Of course they're not as long-lasting as a liquid lipstick, or extremely matte lipstick, but these stay put much longer than a lip gloss. It takes about 10-15 minutes for it to set as much as it's going to.
So when I walked by the Cle de Peau counter yesterday, I knew I had to get another color. The only other one, unfortunately, that caught my eye was their darkest red No. 18. All the others were either too pink, too bright or too light. With Fall here, they all felt inappropriate.
I don't normally wear a tried and true red, but I have to admit - once I put this on, it was quite a powerful color. There is really no other color that makes a statement the way a red lipstick does. I felt All-Woman.
Here are swatches of the two colors on my lips in natural daylight with no flash:
The applicator has a great shape - a bit pointed at the top and very flat, so it makes application very easy. They have a very high-shine finish which really isn't for everyone. But occasionally, I think it's a lot of fun and a nice change from the matte lip.
I hope they come out with a broader range of colors including some deeper brown, rusty shades.
Did you pick up any? What color did you get?
