Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in beauty and style. Hope you have a nice stay!

October Favorites // Makeup

October Favorites // Makeup

Autumn is finally here, and I couldn't be happier. Now I can put on makeup without worrying too much about whether or not it's going to melt off in the subway. And now that holiday makeup releases are in full swing, it's been intense, to say the least, trying to keep up with everything while giving each product enough quality time so I can really form an opinion. Anyway, my October favorites are below, some old, some new and some new-to-me - enjoy!

Anastasia Beverly Hills // Master Palette by Mario

I can imagine this palette is on almost everyone's list, and for good reason. It's such a sultry, smokey, yet natural color palette. I love the warm looks I get with it and the quality of the shadows couldn't be better. While there's quite a bit of kick-up when I dip my brush in, I don't find there's much fallout when I apply it onto the lid. The colors are blendable and work so well together. And it is absolutely perfect for the Autumn weather!

La Mer // The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20 in Neutral 22

When I first started using the foundation, I was in love. It looked like a second skin, and stayed put all day. But then one day I used it and it seemed to cling to my dry patches and emphasized texture. I was floored. I immediately took it off and put it away for about a week. Then I tried it again, and much to my dismay it seemed to do the same thing. But this time I didn't have time to take it off. So I went with it, and when I checked in a few hours later I was pleasantly surprised. It had melted into my skin and looked flawless. I have normal to dry skin and occasionally combination.

It has medium coverage, and I haven't tried building it up since it's probably the heaviest foundation I have. I've used it with a beauty blender for lighter coverage and kabuki brush for a fuller coverage and both worked well. And the texture is like a typical liquid foundation. Not very thick, but not thin like water-based foundations.

It also has an odd? interesting? scent. I suspect it's something to do with a combination of the SPF and La Mer's Miracle Broth. It's not chemically, nor floral. It's just... a scent.

I'll be posting a more in-depth look at this foundation since it's quite expensive at $110 a bottle. So stay tuned!

Cle de Peau // Luminizing Face Enhancer in 16

I was a little put off when I first used this. I had tried it in-store and really liked it. But when I got it home, it seemed so glittery and sparkly. And then I realized it had a sparkly layer and once you brushed that away, the true highlighter was underneath. Whew! Once I got past the glitter, it's such a beautiful and subtle highlight and is a nice change from the ba-bam highlighters I've been using over the summer. It's also a bit cooler in tone which is also welcome now that my skin is growing paler by the minute.

Below is a swatch of the highlighter on my hand - it's so tough to photograph highlighters, but you can get an idea of it.

I swear... this collection seems to get better and better the more I use it. And I've been using this single shadow as eyeliner and it's perfect. With a subtle shimmer, it softens the black a little and I'm finding powder to stay put better than some pencils I've been using. I think with the wind picking up, my eyes have been more watery and making everything else run. But this has stayed all day and I love the ever so slight smokey look it gives.

Marc Jacobs // O!Mega Bronzer in Tantric 102

So, is this my favorite bronzer? No, but I've been using it a lot because I have a deluxe sample size and it's been great to travel with. It's definitely grown on me, and it definitely works for my skin tone. It gives me a nice glow and has no shimmer or glitter so I'd say it's very straightforward and has been a nice staple in my travel bag.
