Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in beauty and style. Hope you have a nice stay!

Charlotte Tilbury // Hot Lips

Charlotte Tilbury // Hot Lips

When I first read about these new lipsticks from Charlotte Tilbury, I assumed it was a new formula with new colors. I didn't realize they were simply 12 new colors of the two existing formulas, Matte Revolution and K.I.S.S.I.N.G., with 4 previously released colors. They were all created for or with female celebrities and named accordingly. What confused me more was that all of these Hot Lips lipsticks were now going to have bullets shaped like the Matte Revolution lipsticks, but could be either formula. Their only distinction is the kiss-shaped stamp on each bullet.

When I first tried the CT lippies, I stuck with the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. line because my lips tend to be dry and matte formulas tend to not work for me. But as I've tried more and more of her lipsticks including the mattes, I've come to really love them both. Her matte lipsticks are more of a suede than a total matte. A sort of dull cream vs a completely dry and flat finish. But they do tend to stay on the lips in a stubborn kind of way. They wear off nicely during the day, not leaving my lips blotchy and stained with color, but evenly. And when I wash it off at night, it takes a little elbow grease to remove it completely.

The lipsticks come in CT's signature rose gold packaging, in the rich burgundy box and I love the hefty weight of these lipsticks. They don't feel cheap in the least bit, and I can't say that about all of CT's packaging (eh em, Bar of Gold highlighter, but I digress.) For the first two months of sales, $2 is being donated to Women to Women International. I personally don't know much about this organization, so I can't vouch for it. But it does make splurging on lipstick a little more palatable. These go for $32 USD a piece.

I started with 4 new colors:

From left to right, Kim K.W., Super Cindy, Kidman's Kiss and Secret Salma.

The Kim K.W. is a little too light for my taste - definitely not an everyday nude. But if I bronzed up my face and did a very smokey eye, I think it will work beautifullly. I did some lip swatches with no other make up on and in daylight to give you the truest sense of the colors... so don't mind my blotchy skin.

It's also a lot pinker than I was expecting. I thought it would be more of a beige nude. My lips do tend to cool down colors, but this was a surprise. And, this color is in the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. formula.

Next up is Super Cindy - this is the color I was most excited for. It seemed like the perfect nude on the site. It's in the matte formula.

But again, the tone was a surprise for me. It was much peachier than I thought. Again, I thought it was going to be more beige. I do like the color; it's just not what I expected. And much to my surprise there are the slightest flecks of shimmer. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me and they're indiscernable on the lips, but they're definitely there.

Kidman's Kiss is definitely the most girly of the bunch. It is the ultimate everyday pink. It's not mauve in anyway, nor is it too bright. It's really quite the pretty pink - perfect for a bridal shower brunch.

I didn't expect to like Kidman's Kiss as much as I do, but it really brightens up the face. Also, this is in the matte formula.

Lastly, is Secret Salma. I think this one is my favorite... so far. (Let's be honest: this will not end here; I'm sure to buy more.) I really love the tone of this color. Not too pink, not too purple. Dark enough to give my lips some attention, but not too much. It's a very natural, yet rich color.

(Secret Salma is also in the matte formula.)

I've definitely been enjoying darker colors this season. I thought it was just the mood I was in, or possibly what I've been wearing. But honestly, I think it's maturing. My skin tone is changing and light-colored lipsticks are starting to look cheap on me. Has this happened to any of you?

The collection is coming to Bergdorf's next week and I'm excited to try more on in person. I think Laura Bailey's color will be coming home with me. Did you guys pick up any?
