July Favorites // Makeup
July is such a great month for me. It's the start of the second half of the calendar year and I can take stock of what I've achieved and then try to plot out the remainder of my To Do List for the year. July is also the month I celebrate a lot of things, like when I started dating my husband which is 20 years ago... time really flies. It's also when I started knitting, 10 years ago, which has led me to my current career. Anyway, July shaped up to be quite the makeup mania month! So many Fall releases started to drop, news about Holiday collections were released and the constant flow of independent brands putting out collaborations had me completely on overdrive.
This past month, I felt like I was able to really spend quality time with these favorites. And by quality time, I don't necessarily mean a lot of time, but I mean wearing these products on super hot, muggy days, and still liking them after a long day of sweating.
Estee Edit Beam Team // Bronze
This was the perfect solution when all I could handle was one layer on my face. It acted as a moisturizer, primer, foundation and bronzer all in one. Right out of the tube, I thought it may be a little too dark for me, but after working it in, it gave me a nice glow. There's no fragrance and the consistency is just like a lotion.
I only used the cream in the flip-top lid once and it was fine. I have other bronzers I like more, but for travel or to throw into your purse, it's an awesome idea.
By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Concealer // Vanilla Beige
I feel like I've been searching for the perfect under eye concealer my entire life and I have finally found it!! I don't even know where to begin! It's a serum corrector so its consistency is light, but the coverage is full. It has skincare benefits like anti-wrinkle and it doesn't look too thick, and it doesn't sink into my fine (and not-so-fine) lines and doesn't fade all day. I like that the applicator is standard, nothing too big or too small or mysterious.
And even better, I purchased this off of the Cult Beauty UK site and after the exchange rate and the removal of VAT and free shipping, it's much cheaper than purchasing it here in the States. I have dry skin, dry under eye skin with discoloration, prone to eczema and this works for me. I can't speak for oily skin types but I can't imagine this not working for everyone. It's perfection.
Kevyn Aucoin // The Legacy Palette
Holy smokes... this palette. Another product I don't even know where to begin! It has 12 shadows, and the Candlelight Highlighter and Sculpting Powder in Medium. I was lucky enough to have scored this at The Makeup Show, so I got a discount, but it's still a pretty penny and worth every single one of those pennies. It comes beautifully packaged in this faux lizard skin with a clutch in a faux grained leather.
Every single shade has a beautiful texture, blends like a dream, zero fallout, and beautifully neutral without being boring.
Four of the eyeshadows are matte (Wheat, Camel, Coco and Light Grey), and I would say the remaining seven are satin with the exception of Black, which has a teensy bit of glitter.
The colors are so universal and the range is incredible - you can do so many looks with just this palette. Something smokey, something natural, cool or warm, this palette really does it all. The top row of shadows are the warmer tones, and the bottom row are cooler, but they all work well together.
Here is a look I did with the palette. I used Iced Gold on the inner corners towards the center of the lid, and shaded it out with Coco, Dark Chocolate and Light Gray. And used Beige under my eyebrows on the brow bone.
The SA that helped me with the palette mentioned that all the eyeshadows are Kevyn Aucoin's most popular eyeshadows. I couldn't find the names of the colors that are in the Duos or 5-pan shadows they offer, so I don't know if these exist outside this palette. Either way, it's really an amazing palette - a holy grail for me!
Chanel Illusion D'Ombre // Rouge Brule
I've been having a lot of fun with the Chanel Le Rouge Collection that just came out. But for me, this eyeshadow is a real standout. The color and texture are both outstanding and when I dabbed a bit in the center of my eyelid, it brightened up the whole look.
It stayed on all day without any fading or smudging. I just love it. This was my first Illusion D'Ombre shadow from Chanel, and now I'm eyeing all the others! #flymoneyfly
Marc Jacobs Air Blush // Lines & Last Night
These blushes are so surprising. I thought the two color, gradiated lines was a little gimmicky. But the two colors really give this blush dimension! And who would have thought blush could have so much dimension! I'm a fan of Charlotte Tilbury's Swish & Pop where one color is swept up and the color dabbed right on the apple for a brightening effect. But these Airblushes are different in that they're luminous and give dimension where you didn't even know you needed it. And applying the same blush on different parts of the cheek make it look different. It's really the coolest blush I've ever used. Blushes are usually so one-dimensional. I feel like these have changed the blush game! They're really amazing!
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick // Bond Girl
It's funny. After I got a bunch of the new Hot Lips colors, I went to Bergdorf's and picked up some other lipsticks from the original lineup and have been wearing those more, including Bond Girl. This is my new favorite nude - it's a bit pink, and a lot brown. It's a bit dark, but I think I may have mentioned this in an earlier post, but as I get older, the lighter colors with a really white base look awful on me. My skin is definitely darker, but not just tan. It's maybe hyperpigmentation, or just aging that's completely changed the color tone in my face. I used to have very cool-toned skin on my face, but it's definitely warmed-up with more yellow undertones. Anyway, darker lip colors are looking more natural on me, and less dramatic. And I love the Matte formula of these lipsticks. They're not terribly drying and the finish is more suede than a flat matte.
So that's it for this month! Hope you had a great July and I'd love to hear what you've been purchasing. I'm thinking the favorites for the next few months are going to be hard to whittle down, so stay tuned! xoxo
