Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in beauty and style. Hope you have a nice stay!

Marc Jacobs // Style Eye-Con No. 20 in About Last Night

I was so close to purchasing a few of the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No. 7 palettes when I started to see sneak peeks on Instagram for this No. 20 palette. So I held off, anxious to try these shadows and as luck would have it, it appeared on Sephora much earlier than I anticipated. So I jumped at the chance, ordered it and have been playing with it ever since. It's $99 USD, available on Sephora and the Marc Jacobs Beauty site, and is limited edition.

I don't know why I feel surprised at how much I like every Marc Jacobs beauty product I've come across. I'm not necessarily skeptical, but it must be so tempting for a famous designer to simply slap their name on a product and watch it fly off the shelves on the strength of their brand name alone. But every time I try one of his products, I seem to like it more and more with each use.

First, the packaging. As a child of the 80's, I remember purchasing my very first CD (Van Halen's OU812 - stop laughing) and receiving a Sony Discman for Christmas. When the palette slid out of the box and into my hands, I couldn't stop laughing. It looks just like a Discman! It's the same size as last year's limited edition palette, The Free Spirit, except that case was black not gold. I don't know if they meant to make it look like a Discman, but they sure brought me back to my childhood. Now, the square shape isn't terribly practical, I admit. It's a little tough to grip and open, it doesn't fit into any of my organizers gracefully and no - I won't be carrying it around in my purse. But, it's gold, has a good weight, nice big mirror and most importantly, the shadows are wonderful.

The shadows are grouped by quads, organized in columns from left to right. Apparently, included in the box are five looks using these five quads. But I didn't see one in my box. I either threw it away in my haste, or one wasn't included in mine.

There are 9 mattes, 9 shimmers and 2 metallics in total. And, I believe some of these shadows appear in other palettes, like Metallic Gold which appears in The Starlet 204 Palette.

The shimmer shadows are my absolute favorite. They're absolutely brilliant and with the most amazing, creamy texture. They blend very well and are incredibly pigmented. The matte colors are very nice too having a lovely creamy texture, but they kick up a lot of powder. Not a huge problem as I think they blend nicely on the lid and are very pigmented. The two metallics have quite a bit of fallout. I had glitter on my cheeks that were very difficult to wipe away and I noticed more appear as the day went on.

I do absolutely love this palette. It is so versatile and you could easily do a very natural matte look, or something very glam, smokey and metallic! There are cool tones and warm tones. And, this is a great day to night palette, and for me, it's the sign of a great palette when it can do it all.
