Chanel // Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayon
I am a huge huge fan of lip crayons. It may be because it speaks to my childhood love of crayons, markers and other art supplies, or simply because I think they're easier to use. I find I usually make a mess with regular lipstick.
When Chanel introduced these Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayons as part of their SS17 lineup, I was so excited. I ordered two colors - two very "me" colors. No. 1 Nude and No. 11 Tangerine. At first swipe, I found these to be more moisturizing than I thought. The word "longwear" seems to always evoke the idea of matte or at least close to it. But these are far from matte.
As soon as I opened the package, I put on the Nude color. My first thought is that these are definitely not longwear. I took a sip of coffee and off it went onto my mug. But then I reapplied and thought I should see if it sets. After about 3 minutes, it definitely dries down a bit and becomes a little longer lasting. The slick slippery feeling fades and it starts to feel more like a satin, almost powdery finish, but not dry or drying. It'll still come off on your mug, but it's a lot better than my initial impression.
What I don't like about these crayons are the packaging. I really really don't like caps that don't snap on. I've had so many accidents with crayons like these - the cap comes off in my makeup bag and it gets everywhere. While these seem snug, I feel like these plastic caps start to stretch out and they sort of pop off on their own. I hope it doesn't happen with these, but I'm definitely suspect. But I do love that the mechanism that turns it up, also retracts the crayon back into the tube. That has been a frustration with other lip products that just sort of click up, but don't go back down.
For those interested, here is a shot of the box with the ingredients:
All in all, I do like these crayons very much. They're not drying, and if you let them set they'll stay on like lipstick. If you're a Chanel fan, you'll love these. If you're hesitant about the splurge, you're probably better off spending it on other new lip releases coming this Spring. I'm also testing out the new Hourglass Lip Stylos and those are very very nice! That post is coming soon! And, anyone out there getting the new Tom Ford lip duo palettes?
